The Wheelchair Zone Rotating Header Image

You may not have noticed (I didn’t notice until a couple of days ago) but Crip College no longer exists.  Who knows why, it may have something to do with the fact that Stryker pulled out of doing the Sorano with Christian Bagg and he’s developed the Marvel wheelchair now (the Marvel is a great chair and I’m glad he’s made it).

Anyway, I felt the Tricks of the Trade section had too much good advice in it to just disappear onto the wayback machine and have saved and reposted them in the Wheelchair Tips section.  I posted them there because they apply to all wheelchair users.

Christian, if you have found these posts here and want them taken down please contact me and I will do so.

Unless otherwise stated all these tricks have been written by Christian Bagg.

We’re currently looking to increase our reviews database on the website to include a whole variety of wheelchair models.  Obviously I have not used every single wheelchair out there so I can’t write them all myself, if I could I would.  It doesn’t matter if your wheelchair has already been reviewed we still want to see what you have to say about your chair.  I know the reviews section has already helped members in deciding what chair they wanted.  Either email new reviews to me or post them in the Website Contributions section of the forums.

Don’t know how to write a review?  Follow this template and you can’t go wrong:

Full Chair Name – Manufacturer, Model and style (rigid/folding/manual/power)

What do you like about your chair?  What is it’s positive points?  Pros?

What don’t you like about your chair?  What is it’s negative points?  Cons?

Is there any other information people need to know about this wheelchair?  Information about living with it day to day or how it handles in different situations is good to write about here.

What rating would you give it out of 10?

If you don’t have a picture of your chair don’t worry, we can find one online at the manufacturers websites.

Welcome to my website! After a lot of searching through the internet I have found that there are very few websites that appeal to people purely on the basis of their love and need for wheelchairs regardless of the reason. I figured that I would solve this issue by making my own site.

My story, in short:

I personally suffer from Body Identity Integrity Disorder (BIID). You might realize that this is not a typical reason one needs to use a wheelchair. You can read more about this and my own personal experiences at Transabled.org I see using a wheelchair as a necessary evil in my case.  I can’t live without my wheelchair but at the same time it is constantly reminding me of what is just out of my reach.  I encourage you to read all my comments on both this site and Transabled.org before you judge me.

This website is intended as a place for ALL wheelchair users regardless of the reason they use a wheelchair.  We ask that if you are going to pretend you understand who you are representing, and represent them well. As the saying goes, “First, do no harm”.  In order to view some of the sections on this website you need to become a registered member.  This is NOT a pay to view site and it never will be. It will not cost you anything to sign up… So I really encourage you to do so.  This site is for members and all content is made up of member contributions. In this way, members feel a sense of ownership and community within this site. That said, your privacy is still protected. I am the only person who has access to the member list as the site administrator.  I welcome any comments, suggestions and discussion (no spam or blank messages please).

If you have come across this site unintentionally (Such as you were looking for websites devoted only to people who have a physical disability such as Multiple Sclerosis), and are not sure what this site is all about, please visit the About Us page. This community is built upon mutual acceptance of people no matter what reasons they have for using a wheelchair, and I intend on keeping it that way.

If you have any tips, reviews or stories that you want to submit then please either contact me or post them in the submissions section of the forums.  The gallery is currently only viewable by members who have been given the “gallery user” rank.  These  users can upload pictures to the gallery themselves.  In order to be promoted to gallery user you need to contact me applying for this rank explaining why you want to view the gallery.

Website Announcements are posted in it’s own section in the forums rather than on the front page.  You can find this section >Here<.  Please note you need to be registered and logged in to view most sections of the forums.
