where wheelchair users and BIID/transabled unite!

Invacare Tracer EX2

I’m sure we’ve all had run-ins with this, wheelchair or one of a similar level. It is the standard for supermarkets in America. It is designed to fulfil most wheelchair purposes and fit most people, but more importantly meet the bare minimum of regulations and is “cost effective”

In short it is crap. The wheels are solid rubber and get a good collection of dust on them if you’re doing anything on a tile floor which soon makes pushing an endeavour. This is compounded by the fact that it is very heavy and clumsy.

I have used this type of chair many times in Supermarkets and Wal Marts and once on Halloween when my friend rented one so he could go as FDR.

The weight has one slight advantage in that it makes Wheelies a bit easier to hold, yet harder to pull out of if you begin a fall.

I fucked around at another friend’s house with this the Halloween that my buddy rented it. I was in it the whole night. I felt pretty bad the next day, because the thing had poor turning radius and generally bad controls which banged up the edges to their place pretty bad.

Good if necessary, but if you can find something better, use it.
